About
An independent, interdisciplinary research and policy journal examining the forces and transformations shaping Tibet and Asia’s upland regions.
Anchored in the Himalayan–Tibetan continuum and extending across Inner and Central Asia, TransHimalaya asks how developments in Tibet continue to shape wider regional and international dynamics.
The journal explores the historical, political, economic, cultural, social and strategic consequences of the People’s Republic of China’s control over Tibet, and examines how developments there — including the policies of the PRC — bear on the region and the world beyond it.
By bringing together rigorous scholarship, policy-relevant analysis and regional voices, TransHimalaya provides a forum for examining critical issues, emerging challenges and long-term trends affecting Tibet and Asia’s upland regions. Bridging research and practice, it offers a credible platform for informed dialogue on strategy, culture and change across one of the world’s most consequential yet underexamined regions.
TransHimalaya is published by the Foundation for Non-Violent Alternatives (FNVA), a not-for-profit, non-partisan organisation working on Tibet, China and the Himalayan frontier from an Indian policy perspective, and printed by Academic Foundation.
The journal is directed by its editorial team, guided by its Governing Council, and written by contributors from across the region and beyond.
